A solo photoshoot is, more often than not, the first time someone has been properly photographed as an adult. Not a phone selfie, not a photo cropped out of a group picture — an actual portrait, taken by someone paying attention to how you look and how you feel. That shift is bigger than it sounds, and it is the reason solo sessions are some of my favourite to shoot.
I photograph a lot of birthdays, a lot of quiet personal milestones, and a lot of people who simply need new photos of themselves — for dating apps, for a profile picture that does not look five years old, or for no particular reason at all beyond wanting to see themselves photographed well. Whatever the reason, the session is built the same way: relaxed, guided, and entirely about you.
If you are nervous about being in front of a camera alone, that is the most common starting point I work with, not the exception. Posing guidance is included in every session, and most people relax completely within the first few minutes once they realise they do not have to know what to do — I will tell you.
Solo sessions carry a different kind of nervousness than couple or group shoots — there is no one else to look at, laugh with, or hide behind. I plan for that specifically, starting with easy, low-pressure prompts like walking or looking at the view before moving to direct-to-camera portraits once you have settled in. By the middle of the session, most clients have completely stopped thinking about the camera.
I also treat the first five minutes as a conversation, not a shoot. Getting a sense of how you talk, move and hold yourself naturally gives me far better material to direct than jumping straight into posing a stranger. It is a small thing that makes a noticeable difference in how natural the final gallery looks.
A birthday photoshoot is quickly becoming one of the most requested reasons for a solo session, and I understand why — it marks the year properly, in a way a phone photo at dinner does not. We can build the session around an outfit that feels celebratory, a location that suits the mood you want, and a pace that leaves room for you to actually enjoy turning another year older rather than rushing through it.
Most profile photos in use today are old, cropped from a group shot, or taken at an angle that does not actually look like the person day to day. A dedicated session fixes all three problems at once — current, properly framed, and taken with enough variety that you are not stuck using the same single photo everywhere. For dating profiles specifically, I aim for a mix of a clear close-up, a full-body shot and something a little more candid, since that combination tends to represent people most honestly.
For LinkedIn, professional directories or general profile use, I keep a portion of the session cleaner and more neutral, so you leave with options for both personal and professional platforms without needing to book twice.
Frederiksberg Gardens and the Botanical Garden both give calm, flattering, even light that suits close portrait work particularly well. Christianshavn offers quieter backdrops if you would rather not be photographed around crowds, while Nyhavn and the city centre work well if you want the classic Copenhagen backdrop in your gallery. Amager Strandpark is a favourite for open, airy solo portraits in the warmer months, and Kastellet gives strong, simple backgrounds that keep the focus entirely on you.
A solo session is DKK 1,000 for 45 minutes, with your fully edited gallery included in that price. You leave with a genuine range of images — close portraits, full body, candid movement — rather than a handful of similar-looking shots.

Good to know
Extremely normal, and the most common feeling clients arrive with. I start slowly with easy movement-based prompts before moving to direct portraits, and most people relax well before the halfway point.
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons clients book. I aim for a mix of a clear close-up, full body and a candid shot, which tends to work best across most dating profiles.
Regularly. We can plan the outfit, location and mood around the celebration, at whatever pace feels right for the day.
Yes. I usually split the session so part of the gallery works for personal use and part is cleaner and more neutral for professional profiles.
Bring two outfits if you can — one that feels like your everyday self and one a little more elevated. It gives the gallery variety without needing extra time.
